Recycling

Recycling is a way of life for PSC and a smart way to do business. PSC’s award-winning recycling program is a leader in the foundry industry. The casting process begins with high grade scrap metal (seen at left) that is melted and then poured into a mold made from sand. When we finish using a mold, the mold is crushed and the sand is recycled numerous times in the computer-controlled sand recycler to make multiple castings. PSC also recycles many tons of cardboard, plastic packaging, wood pallets and boxes (see City of Berkeley 2005 Disposal Facility Report)

PSC Recycles 15-25,000 tons of high grade scrap metal each year.

Plant 2 Sand Recycler

PSC recycled over 40,000 tons of sand in 2005 which would otherwise have entered landfills. We recycled 19,608 tons of steel, 84 tons of cardboard and 405 tons of wood.
