Pacific Steel Casting Company News!
PACIFIC STEEL CASTING CO, LLC. 1333 Second St. Berkeley, CA 94710
October 19th 2017
Dear Valued Customer, Pacific Steel Casting Co has long catered to the needs of the Oil and Gas industry as well as heavy truck manufacturing and other industrial applications. With the prolonged down turn in oil drilling rig development, and vast offshoring of casting production, we no longer have enough volume at Pacific Steel to operate the no-bake and greensand foundries cost effectively.
Pacific Steel Management has made the decision to idle ALL of Pacific Steel’s foundries (no-bake, greensand and shell) in Berkeley, CA and transfer existing and future demands to three steel foundries within the Speyside Foundry Group:
- Sawbrook Steel - Cincinnati, OH. - Carbon and low alloy steel
- Ashland Foundry and Machineworks - Ashland, PA. - High alloy steel and iron
- West Coast Foundry - Huntington Park, CA. - High alloy steel (low volume) limited shell
Supporting your transition:
It is Pacific’s intent to transfer tooling with minimal disruption to our customers’ supply. We will reassign production crews to duties of pulling customer tooling for transfer to aforementioned foundries. Representatives from these foundries will reach out to you to help manage the transition and gain understanding of your needs.
Pacific has some inventory leftover from overruns of previous orders. This inventory will be helpful in supporting a transition from Pacific to those in the Speyside Foundry Group. We will provide a list of inventory available for immediate shipment to support your interim needs.
It is Management and ownership’s intent to wind-down casting production and processing in these foundries by years end with some exceptions. We are currently working with customers to move their work to one of the three noted above to ensure compatibility of job complexity and production crew capability.
As we wind-down, fixed cost allocation on remaining production will rise dramatically as our tonnage subsides. In order to full fill Pacific’s commitments we will rely on financial assistance of our customers in the form of a surcharge of $0.75/lb. for all castings shipped after 10/31/2017 with payment due at the time of shipment. Tooling returned to customers or transferred outside the aforementioned are subject to handling charges $200/pattern. Alternatively patterns may be disposed of locally with a $50/pattern fee to cover haulages and land fill fees (bulk rates are available).
We trust that you have enjoyed the quality product supplied by Pacific Steel and are confident that Speyside’s crews will provide for a smooth transition and continue to meet your requirements.
